Competition for the microhouse – an autonomous modular home

The micro-home embodies the qualities of stones—strength, simplicity, and adaptability—offering a unique approach to modern living. Whether standing alone in nature or as part of a larger community, each unit provides a secure and peaceful place to live, harmonizing with its surroundings and fostering a deeper connection with nature.

Micro-homes offer a secure space that is perfectly integrated with the natural environment. These homes harmonize with their surroundings, minimizing environmental impact. Each structure serves as a habitat for various animals, including birds, bees, and other insects, thereby enhancing biodiversity. The homes act as safe havens not only for people but also for wildlife, promoting a symbiotic relationship with nature. This concept emphasizes creating a sanctuary that supports both human well-being and ecological health.

Designed from natural materials and fully self-sufficient, micro-homes do not require connections to municipal networks. They are oriented to maximize exposure to sunlight and views while providing a secure and private environment, which is especially important in remote areas. The minimalist design ensures a clean, easy-to-maintain living space, ideal for those seeking closer contact with nature.

This project takes a holistic approach to sustainability, considering multiple factors to ensure complete independence. The thick roof and foundation provide natural insulation, keeping the interior cool and preventing overheating. The front terrace allows residents to enjoy nature while maintaining maximum privacy. The simple, transportable shape of the buildings further highlights their environmentally conscious design.

Modularity: Homes can be combined to create larger living spaces or entire communities, offering versatile and scalable solutions for various residential layouts.

Connection to Nature: Large openings oriented towards the sun and landscape views enhance the bond with nature, providing a tranquil living experience.

Privacy and Security: The homes are designed to offer secure, private shelter, which is essential for professional couples seeking peace away from urban noise.

Flexibility: The adaptive layout allows for customization according to the specific needs of the residents, whether for work, relaxation, or entertainment.

Sustainability: Emphasizing an ecological lifestyle, the homes use sustainable materials and design principles, ensuring minimal environmental impact and complete self-sufficiency.

Minimalism: The minimalist design provides a clutter-free, easy-to-clean space, promoting a lifestyle focused on essential comforts and well-being.

Transportability: The simplicity of the shape facilitates transport, allowing the homes to be placed in various natural settings without significantly disrupting the environment.

Organiser: Buildner & Kingspan

The MICROHOME Kingspan Edition is a competition focused on creating the concept for an autonomous, modular home that would accommodate a hypothetical young couple. The total usable area of the structure should not exceed 25 m². The competition challenges participants to radically rethink space organization, introduce a unique aesthetic, and implement cutting-edge technologies and materials. The ultimate goal is to transform the micro-home from an architectural form into a revolutionary type of living space.
